Urad dal is one of the most popular Indian dals. It is actually a very favorite Gujrati dish. Urad dal is very tasty and you can eat it with baati, rice or chapattis. Learn how to prepare Urad Daal by following this easy recipe.
Ingredients for making Urad Dal
- 1 cup Urad (dhuli)dal
- 4 cup water
- 1 chopped Onion
- 1 chopped Tomato
- 1tsp Ginger grated
- 1-2 chopped Green chilies
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
- A pinch of Garam masala
- Red chili powder to taste
- 1tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 cloves
- Coriander leaves finely chopped
- 1/3 cup clarified butter
- 1tsp lemon juice
- Salt to taste
How to prepare Urad Dal
- First of all, clean and wash the dal properly until water is clear. Soak the dal in water for 10-15 minutes.
- Now add 4 cup of water to the dal and Boil it till daal becomes soft. Drain excess water from the dal and set aside.
- Heat clarified butter in a pan; add bay leaves, cloves and cumin seeds, wait till they splutter.
- Now add onion, ginger and green chili to the oil and sauté. Fry till they turn golden brown.
- Add tomato and fry till it softens. Then Add turmeric powder, chili powder and salt and fry for 30 seconds.
- Now add dal to the above prepared material. Then add lemon juice in it, mix well.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with coriander.
- Serve hot with chapattis and rice.
