Ingredients for making Khatti Meethi dal
- 1 cup Bengal gram (chana dal)
- 100 gm beet root
- 3-4 cup water
- 2-3 chilly paste
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- A pinch of asafetida
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 6-7 curry leaves
- 1 piece cinnamon
- 2 tsp cloves
- 1/2 cup tamarind juice
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 50 gm groundnut
- 2 dried dates
- 50 gm jaggery
- 1 tsp clarified butter
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander for garnishing
- Salt to taste
How to prepare Khatti Meethi dal (sweet and sour dal)
- Clean and wash Bengal gram, rinse it and add beet root pieces to it and cook it in a cooker, till it get boiled.
- Add turmeric powder, salt, coriander powder,dry dates, jaggery, tamarind juice, curry leaves, groundnut,chilly paste in the cooked daal and boil again for 5-7 minutes.
- Now heat butter in a pan and add cloves, asafetida, mustard seeds, cinnamon, and cumin seeds in it.
- Add this material to the daal and cook for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander.
- Serve hot with naan, hot chappatis or rice.
