Daal Nawabi is a combination three types of daal (usually chana dal, rajma and dhuli urad dal). As the name indicates, Dal Nawabi is a royal daal and a spicy one. Learn here how to make dal nawabi by following this easy recipe.
Ingredients for making Dal Nawabi
- 1/2 cup rajma
- 1/2 cup chana dal
- 1 cup urad dhuli dal
- 6-7 cup water
- 1 piece ginger
- 4 small onions
- 7-8 garlic buds
- 6 tomatoes chopped
- 2 green chilly chopped
- Some tamarind (imli)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp red chilly powder (lal mirch)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper powder (kali mirch)
- 2 tsp sugar
- 50 gm cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup curd (dahi)
- 1 cup cream
- 4 tbsp clarified butter (ghee)
- 2 tsp salt
- Few coriander leaves for garnishing
How to prepare Dal Nawabi
- Clean and wash all the 3 daals and soak them in water for overnight or for 7-8 hours.
- Make ginger, garlic and onion paste with the help of grinder.
- Take a cooker, put all dal and water in it, and then add turmeric powder and salt to the daal. Pressure cook all the material till all dals get cooked properly and then remove it from the flame.
- Heat clarified butter in a pan and fry cottage cheese till it turns golden in color, takes them out and keep aside.
- In the same ghee add cumin seeds, wait till they splutters and then fry ginger, garlic and onion paste until it turns pink.
- Then add tomatoes and cook for few seconds. Then add curd and stir continuously (Continuous stirring is must), after this add all the spices in it. (Red chilly powder, black pepper powder, sugar and tamarind) and fry for a minute.
- Add some cream and cook for 5 minutes.
- At last add boiled daal and cheese pieces in the prepared frying material and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Then remove it from the flame and garnish with coriander.
- Serve hot with naan, hot chapattis or rice.
