Puran Poli
Puran Poli is a favorite food in Maharashtra and western India. Puran Poli can be eaten at breakfast or as a post-meal dessert. It’s your choice, though, how you decide to do. I can assure you that Puran Poli is worth the effort involved in prepareng it. Here is an easy recipe to help you prepare Puran Poli (Sweet Pan-fried Flatbread).
Ingredients for making Puran Poli:
• 1 cup chana dal
• 1 pinch kesar powder
• 1 cup sugar
• 2-3 cardamom pods
• 1½ cups maida
• 8 tbsp oil
• 1 tsp turmeric powder
How To Prepare Puran Poli :
1. To prepare puran poli first take maida and sieve it.
2. Take ½ cup of water and mix kesar powder in it. Add this to the sieved maida and knead well using little oil and make a soft dough.
3. For 1 to 2 hours keep it aside.
4. Meanwhile, wash and clean chana dal and boil it in water till it becomes soft.
5. Remove the water on the top and add sugar to it. Keep turning it constantly till it forms a lump.
6. Take a mixer and grind it to form a smooth paste. Do not use water. Also put cardimon and grind for some time.Now make lime sized pellets of this “puran” and equal number of pellets of the dough.
7. Take the dough and dust it with maida and roll them into small puris.
8. Keep a pellet of puran on the puri. Bring the edges to the centre to cover the puran. Enclose it completely with the puri.
9. Take a newspaper and spread it on a wooden board. Roll the poli balls on it in puris.
10. Take a chapatti tawa and keep it on low flame. Put polis and roast them from both the sides. Take the polis and place them on a clean piece of cloth.
11. Puran Polis are ready to be served.
