Tomato chutney Recipe

Tomato is an annual plant, native to South America and widely cultivated for its fleshy red fruit in India as well. These are rounded or pear-shaped fruits which are eaten fresh or canned and made into puree, pickles etc! Here is an easy recipe to help you learn how to make tomato chutney. 

Ingredients for making tomato chutney:

  • 1 kg tomatoes ( tamatar)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (lal mirchi)
  • 30 gms fresh ginger (adrak) ( 2 tsps long strips)
  • 2 cloves garlic ( lasun), chopped
  • 60 gms raisins (kishmish)  (4 tsps)
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 1 onion (pyaj)
  • 240 gms sugar (cheeni) (1 ½ cup)
  • ¾ tsp crushed big cardamoms (elaichi moti)
  • 1 ½ cups vinegar (sirka)
  • 10 blanched almonds (badam) 

How to make tomato chutney:

  1. First of all put the tomatoes in boiling water for 5 minutes.
  2. Now take out from the water, wipe and remove their skins and cut into small pieces.
  3. On the other side cut ginger into thin slices.
  4. Then put tomatoes, red chili pepper, chopped garlic and ginger into a degchi and cook till tender.
  5. Then stir it constantly until thick.
  6. At the end add vinegar, sugar, cleaned raisins and crushed cardamoms and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from the fire, cool and keep in air tight jar.
