Tamarind chutney is a sweet and sour condiment. Also known by the name Imli ki chutney, it goes well with samosa and many other such snack preparations. Here is an easy recipe to help you learn how to prepare tamarind chutney.
Ingredients for making tamarind chutney:
- 200 gms tamarind ( imli)
- 300 gms jaggery (gur) grated
- 2 tsp roasted cumin (jeera) powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp black salt
- 1 tsp garam masala
How to make tamarind (Imli) chutney:
- First of all add 5 cups of water to tamarind and bring it over the flame and cook for 10 minutes.
- Then strain it and add the jaggery, chili powder, cumin powder, salt, garam masala and mix well.
- Then cook again on medium flame till jaggery dissolves completely and the chutney gets semi thick (not so thick)
- Now take out the pulp from the tamarind mixture. This chutney thickens more on cooling so check for consistency when using.
